Summary
The Operations Project Leader is the counterpart of the Development PL and the primary role is to manage a smooth introduction of new products (NPI) into the Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Field, keeping in mind that time-to-market is crucial in our industry. The PL is responsible for ensuring that the proper elements of the Product Generation Process (PGP) are known and adhered to across the Operations team, as well as assessing risk and mitigation strategies, highlighting issues, and managing their solutions, and coordinating the various activities within Operations to ensure good cross-program communication.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Operations Project Leader is responsible for a smooth yet swift New Product Introduction through concurrent engineering and industrialization, according to the Product Generation Process (PGP) guidelines.
 
Key areas of responsibility are:
  • Manage operations requirements towards development
  • Ensure adequate project team resources in Operations departments
  • Align project plans with overall product / program timeline
  • Cascade PGP milestones and deliverables into Operations departments
  • Create visibility on total demand and ramp-up plan
  • Identify and manage project critical path, communicate issues and manage the solution path
  • Secure industrialization and ramp-up readiness
  • Prepare Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Field for NPI’s
  • Balance obsolescence risk vs. time to market during material planning.
  • Ensures excellent cross-functional communication (through effective meetings, email, and other means) to ensure optimal coordination between Program, Development and Operations 
  • Performs post-mortem reviews from an Operations perspective to ensure key lessons learned are documented and corrective action is taken
  • Creates presentations as required to support internal and external program reviews.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or Business
  • A minimum of ten (10) years total experience, preferably in New Product Introduction with five (5) years previous Project Management experience.  Product development experience utilizing phase gate or similar product development process guidelines preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building.
  • Ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic e-mail systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to influence, motivate, mentor, and lead team resources.
  • Ability to solve problems and implement solutions to complex problems with available resources.
  • Ability to access and plan staffing requirements for projects and technical/non-technical qualifications/capabilities of staff members.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge and experience to be able to communicate effectively with the engineering teams, and to check/review their plans and progress.
  • Excellent organizational, reasoning, planning, and motivational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to effectively convey information in graphical and chart formats.
  • Good meeting practices (proper attendance, agendas, start/stop times, minutes, actions, follow-through).
  • Self-starter; self-motivator; willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Ability to adapt processes to improve inefficiencies and accelerate product development.
  • Excellent decision making skills and business judgment.
  • Understanding of escalation utilization.
  • Ability to define and track short and long-term goals and resources.
  • Strong organization skills. 
  • 10% or less travel.
  • Must be comfortable having to wear clean room suits in the manufacturing environment. 
  • Will require frequent early morning meeting and conference calls for alignment
