The EUV source team in San Diego operates in a fast-paced, uniquely innovative, and challenging environment to create new-to-industry solutions with rapid productization to support an aggressive commercialization plan for the EUV technology within ASML.  The CO2 Laser Light Delivery Satellite team is responsible for the integration, qualification, and support of the CO2 beam delivery.  The complexity of the EUV source puts exciting and challenging demands on the CO2 Satellite Optomechanical Integration Engineer who will be engaged in integration and support of the laser delivery system, all working under extremely challenging dynamic conditions to produce stable EUV light.

Job Mission

The CO2 Satellite Optomechanical Integration Engineer will support design, development, and integration of next-generation optical subsystems for the creation and control of EUV radiation.


The CO2 Satellite Optomechanical Integration Engineer will need to be able to perform analysis, verification, troubleshooting including hands-on alignment of complex of complex laser/optical systems. S/he will represent the CO2 Laser Delivery projects within San Diego and serve as an interface to the design projects in the Netherlands. The engineer will also be responsible for data collection and analysis, system integration and validation, trouble-shooting, issue resolution management, test plan development, test analysis reports, and remote and on-site field support for customer escalations.

  • Works closely with cross-disciplinary teams to provide analysis, verification, and trouble-shooting for the complex opto-mechanical, mechatronic, and laser systems.
  • Analyzes system issues, plans and conducts investigations, provides containment solutions, and defines root cause, suggests solutions, presents findings, and implements changes.
  • Develops test plans/procedures, executes tests, analyzes test data, summarizes and generates test results for review with internal and external customers.
  • Reviews requirements, specifications, designs of CO2 Laser Generation/Delivery electrical and opto-electro-mechanical systems.
  • Works closely with development teams in the Netherlands to act as their San Diego counterpart, requiring early morning calls and meetings to gain alignment and share knowledge.
  • Travels to internal and customer sites (domestic and overseas) to receive and provide training, and trouble-shoot, upgrade, and optimize systems (<20%).
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Excellent analytical skills and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with analytical software e.g. MatLab, LabView, and Python etc
  • Flexibility in work schedule including alternating day and night shifts and travels to oversees customer sites with short notices.
  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats and ability to present results verbally.
  • Ability to develop trouble-shooting guide/action plans.
  • The employee is required to support off-hours/on-call phone support for escalation management. 
  • Requires a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in science and engineering such as optics, physics, opto-mechanical and mechanical engineering.  Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, no experience required with a Master’s Degree but is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in controls of optics.  Laser and optics knowledge a plus but not required.
  • Experience in semiconductor equipment development a plus.

  • Can work under deadlines.
  • Must be capable of working in the lab at floor level to 8 feet high with appropriate ladder.
